Due to the advent of the internet, it has never been easier to
search for the best deals on airline fares and ensure that you get the
cheapest airplane ticket available. Though this new technology has made
the search easier, it can still be very difficult to obtain large
discounts. Therefore, i want to show you the strategies I use to save
money every week on my airline flights.
Split Ticketing
Ok, if your anything like me you would probably assume that a return ticket would work out cheaper than two singles. Be aware, this is not always the case. A favorite strategy of mine is to always find out the price of single tickets as well as the return option because occasionally airlines will have a promotion on a particular route, with some slightly cheaper fares on offer. These promotions are usually for single trips, but buy two singles instead and there may be money to be saved! This is a good way of getting the cheapest airplane ticket available and a strategy not to be missed.
Different Airlines
Consider using a different airline for your inward and outward bound trips. Yes there's a little more work involved, but sometimes money can be saved using this option. As in split ticketing (above), individual airlines often have promotions on, so keep your eyes peeled, there is money to be saved here!
Travel agent
Travel agents are an under used resource these days, for every trip i make i always give my agent a call though, the reason being is that occasionally they have access to some exclusive deals which again can shave money off your ticket price.
Inside knowledge
If you want to save massive amounts and really ensure you get the cheapest airplane ticket possible, then you need a friend who is an airline employee (and is willing to tell you how!). This is the only way to make really big savings on your tickets. I strongly urge you to speak to them before you next book a flight. You will definitely thank me for it.
